Presentations

This meetup we will share 3 different business cases about how VR can add value:

• CGI presentation about a VR assignment for a  ‘workers insurance company’ :

On the continuous search for new VR applications, a client of CGI asked if it is possible to enrich the e-learning experience of employees using virtual reality. The goal was not to recreate their e-learning content in a 3D space, but to make the videos they already use more memorable. In other words, CGI had to use existing legacy videos, in a VR space. Tune in to see how they solved this problem, what they learned, do’s & don’ts and the result!”

•KLM presentation about VR Learning by Chris Koomen (Innovation Technology and Learning Lead):

As an airline we are a highly operations and process driven organisation. A complex mix off several different processes which cannot be interrupted. That environment makes training and learning a challenge. At the same time a lot can only be effectively learned on the job. At KLM, we have seen an opportunity in VR, specific 360degrees filming. We are introducing and experimenting with situational VR scenario training.

Captain VR Presentation about VR coaching by Dana-Maria Faneker:

Dana’s coaching method is based on the principle of providing people with the right information and tools to train themselves to be the Captain of their lives. And she believes Virtual Reality can be an Amazing powerful tool to help to create that. As Virtual Reality Coach Dana is experimenting with Virtual Reality environments to help you see things from a new mind blowing perspective. Now she is coaching people on Stage Fright, Fear of speaking (in English) in public, People who are afraid of heights and Social phobia.  For Social Phobia, Dana created a 360-degree video app called ” the PartyFear app ” in collaboration with VRbeelding.

Break-out sessions

During the break-out sessions we will brainstorm with CGI about possible applications of VR in the various markets. The markets that will be discussed are Postal & Logistical Services, Aviation and Infrastructure & Environment. These sessions are there to challenge each other to think of new applications for VR and even to see if cooperations between the different attendees can be found. The ideas that are innovative, feasible and bring added-value will be selected and together with CGI we will start discussions with CGI’s clients to jointly follow-up on these idea’s.

Everyone is welcome, however this session will be most relevant for those who are professionally interested in the usage of VR.

Food & Drinks

CGI will sponsor the food & drinks. The walking dinner will start at 17:30 and will be till 18:00.

Location: Venture Café

Venture Cafe’s Weekly Gathering is held every Thursday from 15:00 till 20:00 in the CIC floor of the Groot Handelsgebouw, adjacent to the Rotterdam Central Station. UITSPRAAK OVER VR

"To begin with, Virtual Reality is a part of computer science and it represents a new approach to computer science. Instead of treating the computer as a box that's out there that is supposed to accomplish something, you put a human being in the center and say, "Let's look at the human being closely. Let's see how people perceive the world or how they act. Let's design a computer to fit very closely around them, like a glove, you might say. Let's match up the technology to exactly what people are good at.""
